It's that time of year we're all starting to reach for comfort, whether that's a warming bowl of soup, putting the fire on or wrapping up in a blanket with a hot chocolate. My fave home comfort has got to be my salt lamp. Just look at that glooow.⠀

SALT LAMPS

If you don’t know already, it’s a chunk of rock made out of pink Himalayan salt crystals with a lightbulb inside. Once lit, it warms up and helps detoxify the air, relieves allergies, emits negative ions, neutralises the effects of electronics and enhances our mood. I can’t rave about it enough and couldn’t be without one. I’m known as the lamp girl in hospitals as I always bring it in with me! the warming orange glow brings so much calmness to patients and I during the long nights in a bay. Being around stale stagnant germy air and lots of bleeping machines, I feel more relaxed knowing I have the salt lamp doing its best to neutralise these.⠀

Not all Himalayan salt lamps are equal, if you’re getting one for its health benefits make sure you find a reputable company. I got mine from https://www.oceanspatherapy.com which is slightly different from most types, It has a flat top that you can use therapeutically by placing your hands and feet on it, it also comes with a salt stone that you place onto of the lamp to heat up that you can use on your body. I’ve had mine for over 6 years and it’s still going strong!⠀

PINK HIMALAYAN SALT

This is my go to salt to cook with for its pinky hue, added mineral content and being a more purer, natural salt. It comes from the Khewra salt mine, which is near the Himalayas in Pakistan. It’s hand-extracted, minimally processed; making it unrefined and free of additives. Due to its natural harvesting process, the salt contains 84 different minerals and trace elements which gives the salt its pink tinge. My go to brand is Profusion which you can pick up in most health shops. ⠀

Sea salt is another popular less refined salt, but nowadays it contains trace amounts of heavy metals and microplastics from ocean pollution, and on the other end of the spectrum you have Table salt: it’s heavily refined and usually mixed with anti-caking agents to prevent clumping.⠀ ⠀

Someday i’d love to spend time in a man-made salt cave formed out of pink Himalayan salt. The salty dream! What’s your fave home comfort?
