THE BIG S..
January I overcame my 9th bout of sepsis. It’s a bady, it’s life threatening and it’s a pain in the ass. I’m prone to getting sepsis  because I have a Hickman line- a tube inserted through my chest and in a large vein draining into my heart. This goes directly into my bloodsteam so it’s super easy for bacteria to mingle and cause havoc.
TREATMENT
During antibiotic treatment my Hickman line that feeds and keeps me hydrated gets locked with antibiotics so it can’t be used. This means I have to go long periods without ‘eating’ anything. This time I went 15 days without nadaa. All doctors can do is hook me up to bags of saline to keep me hydrated- its a killer 😅
POST SEPSIS
Many sepsis survivors continue to experience long term post sepsis symptoms. Recovery is long and slow, but at this point I’m just grateful to have beaten it again and be back home where I belong ✨
SYMPTOMS TO LOOK OUT FOR
Sepsis is your bodies over reactive and toxic response to a infection in the body that has got into the bloodstream- Fever, shivering, chills, fast heart rate, short of breath, drop in blood pressure, clammy, confusion or disorientation and generally feeling super ill. Sepsis doesn’t hang about and needs to be acted on quickly before your body goes into septic shock, at this point organ damage begins and your fighting for your life.
